RC Thermometer TC-1030
The RC Thermometer TC-1030 is a high-precision infrared thermometer engineered specifically for RC engine temperature monitoring, as well as measuring engine temperature, motor and ESC controller temperatures. It is also ideal for general object surface temperature and ambient temperature tracking. Built for hobbyists and serious RC enthusiasts, this device combines high accuracy, rugged durability, and intuitive operation in compact, protective housing.
With special design for best viewing angle and holding angle for pit crews with quick response, the TC-1030 allows you to capture accurate readings instantly while maintaining a natural, comfortable grip—even in fast-paced race conditions. The device also features historical data storage of 10 most recent records, easy for traceability, helping you track temperature trends over multiple runs.
Whether you are fine-tuning a high-performance nitro RC engine, checking your brushless motor after a hard run, or monitoring ESC temperature to prevent thermal shutdown, the TC-1030 delivers reliable, real-time readings on a bright 4-digit red LED display.
Not intended for medical use (human body temperature).

Key Features & Detailed Explanation
High-Precision Infrared Sensing
- High-precision infrared temperature sensor – Captures thermal radiation accurately from target surfaces.
- Reflective cone – Helps focus the sensor’s field of view and reduces interference from ambient heat sources.
- Silicone protective cover – Provides impact resistance and a Preventing heat contamination of temperature sensor.
The device supports two measurement modes:
- Object Surface Temperature Mode – For measuring engines, motors, ESCs, pipes, and other solid surfaces.
- Ambient Temperature Mode – For monitoring air temperature around your workbench or within a storage case.
The device supports two temperature units
- Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F). Mode – The unit setting determines the scale used for all temperature measurements and display readouts.
Fast & Accurate Readings

The fast response time (under 0.24 seconds) allows you to take instant readings even on rapidly changing temperatures, such as an RC engine right after a full-throttle pass.

User-Friendly Operation
• 5 function buttons (Up, Down, Left, Right, Measure) – Simple, tactile controls that work even with gloves.
• Single measurement mode – Press the Measure button once to capture and hold a reading.
• Continuous measurement mode – Hold down the Measure button for real-time temperature updates; release to freeze the last reading.
• 10-reading memory – Automatically stores the 10 most recent measurements. Press Up/Down in standby to scroll through history. An audible beep confirms when you reach the first or tenth record.
• Adjustable emissivity (0.01–1.00, 0.01 steps) – Allows you to match the sensor to different surface materials (e.g., polished metal vs. painted surfaces) for maximum accuracy. Factory default is 0.95, suitable for most RC materials.
• Buzzer feedback – Confirms button presses, mode entries, and setting saves. Can be disabled in the settings menu if silent operation is preferred.
Smart Power Management
• Auto sleep mode – After 10 seconds of inactivity, the device automatically powers down to conserve battery life. Press any button to instantly wake it up. • Power supply – Standard 9V DC battery (Not included). Alkaline 6LR61 type recommended for longest life.

Customizable LED Display Direction
• The 4-digit red LED module can be physically rotated 180 degrees. This is especially useful if you prefer to view reading from a different angle. The user manual provides step-by-step instructions for changing orientation.
Distance to Spot Ratio (D:S) –
Why It Matters for RC Users The Distance to Spot ratio defines the relationship between how far you hold the thermometer from a target and the size of the area being measured.
• The TC-1030 has a D:S ratio of 1.6:1. • At a measurement distance of 30 mm, the spot diameter is approximately 1.9 mm – perfect for measuring a small RC engine cylinder head or a specific spot on a motor can.
• At 50 mm, the spot diameter grows to about 3.1 mm, which may still be acceptable but less precise.

Recommended Measurement Distances
Distance Spot Diameter Evaluation
2 cm ~1.3 mm Ideal
3 cm ~1.9 mm Ideal
4 cm ~2.5 mm Acceptable
5 cm ~3.1 mm Borderline usable
Best Measurement Location for RC Engines
• Optimal position – Directly above the spark plug seating surface, at a distance not exceeding 3 cm.
• Locations to avoid – Exhaust manifold, lower section of engine crankcase, and rear cover assembly (these areas give inconsistent readings due to reflected heat or airflow).
For consistent, comparable readings, always measure from the same location on your engine or motor before and after tuning.
Emissivity – A Professional Feature
Emissivity is the efficiency with which a surface emits thermal radiation. Different materials emit heat differently.
• Most RC materials (anodized aluminum, painted surfaces, plastics, rubber) – Use 0.95 (factory default).
• Polished stainless steel or bare shiny metal – Use 0.30 or lower.
• Wood, concrete, liquids – Refer to the reference table in the manual.
If you are unsure, leave emissivity at 0.95 – it provides accurate results for the vast majority of RC applications. Advanced users can fine-tune emissivity in 0.01 steps for specialized measurements.
